Description
Most grape varieties love the abundant sunshine and cool nights that the Alpine Valleys provides, none more so than the famed Spanish variety, Tempranillo. The warm days allows for the vibrant, juicy flavours to develop whilst the cool nights help preserve the precious natural acidity vital to balancing out the palate. Year after year a disproportionate number of Australia’s most highly awarded Tempranillo’s are made from our region, reinforcing our decision to plant this variety in the Feathertop vineyard many years ago. Our 2018 Tempranillo follows the much drier, leaner style of its’ predecessor, which was made in the cool, damp conditions of 2017. It displays juicy, mouth-filling flavours of red berry fruits, dark cherry, sweet spice and a hint of earthiness. The rich palate is balanced by crisp natural acidity and fine, talc-like tannins that leave the palate long and dry. Whilst it may not age for as long as our 2017 version (which is still in its infancy) this wine will continue to improve with cellaring.
Enjoy with: Pork, poultry and rich seafood dishes.
Cellaring potential: Drink now – 2026.
