OUR STORY
Feathertop Winery History
Feathertop Winery is situated within the geographical indicator (GI) of the Alpine Valleys. The greater region is known as the North East Valleys.
The region is well known for its extensive diversity of food and wine varieties.
Extending from Victoria’s snowfields to the Murray River, covering the Alpine Valleys, Beechworth, Glenrowan, King Valley and Rutherglen wine regions, this system of Mountains, Valleys and rivers sets the scene for an inspirational food and wine experience.
Where else in the WORLD can you see five GI’s in a day?
With the extraordinary climatic conditions and natural landscape, it provides an amazing canvas for producing exceptional wines.
The North East Valleys produce some of the States finest ingredients, with chestnuts and walnut groves, asparagus, olives, citrus, mustards, breads, berries (just across the road from us) not to mention wonderful wines.
Our region is truly seasonal, boasting four distinct seasons. Summers are hot, winters cold (snow capped mountains), with the added warm breezes of Spring and the spectacular fall of colour in Autumn.
The temperature variations between day and night and the four seasons that characterise this continental climate, provide ideal growing conditions for grapes. This area, with its authentic characters, welcoming farm gates and natural beauty is a must to visit.
Our vineyard was established in 1988 with a belief that the Alpine Valleys provided the ideal terroir and climate to experiment and grow a variety of different grapes.
The site was originally an old horse paddock overgrown with blackberries, however the potential was immediately evident. Not only for growing grapes, but for its appeal as a tourism destination. A place where people could relax in an unpretentious atmosphere and discover the elegance of hand crafted cool climate wines. It is a site blessed with incredible natural beauty overlooking the alpine peaks of Mt Buffalo, surrounded by native forests, rolling hills and located on the Murray To Mountains Rail Trail.
With determination and a list of 30 varietals the winery opened up its cellar door in 1989. The very first winery in the Alpine Valleys.
Feathertop is synonymous with its passion for developing alternate varietals. Savagnin, Tempranillo and Vermentino to name a few, have all found their spiritual home in the Alpine Valleys. But you can also expect award winning traditional varieties like Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Prosecco and a selection of fortified wines.
When you visit by appointment we offer so much more than wine tastings. We strive to make your visit memorable for the whole family with local providore platters, accommodation, cycle friendly facilities, a Summit Cru Wine Club that allows you to access our winery estate 7 days a week and 22 varietals of wine each year at our best prices.
This beautiful backdrop can also be the place where you say “I do” to your partner, where you and your loved ones can celebrate all things love and joy.
We want you to explore this website to discover which #feathertopmoment awaits you.
