Our vineyard was established in 1988 by Kel Boynton with a belief in that the Alpine Valleys provided the ideal terroir and climate to experiment and grow a variety of different grapes.
The site was an old horse paddock overgrown with blackberries, but immediately the potential was seen, not just for growing grapes, but for its appeal as a tourism destination, a place where people could relax in an unpretentious atmosphere and discover the elegance of hand crafted cool climate wines. It is a site blessed with incredible natural beauty – it overlooks the alpine peaks of Mt Buffalo, is surrounded by native forests, rolling hills and located on the Murray To Mountains Rail Trail.
With determination and a list of 30 varietals the winery opened up its cellar door in 1989. It was the first winery in the Alpine Valleys. Kel retired in Jan 2019, Nick Toy is our chief winemaker.
Feathertop is synonymous with its passion for developing alternate varietals. Savagnin, Tempranillo and Vermentino to name a few, have all found their spiritual home in the Alpine Valleys. But you can also expect award winning traditional varieties like Shiraz, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Prosecco and a selection of fortified wines.
Currently due to COVID19 and a loss of our 2020 Vintage due to bushfires, this year we are closed to the public and only open by appointment.
When you visit by appointment we offer so much more than wine tastings. We strive to make your visit memorable for the whole family and we offer plenty of experiences to be enjoyed on our estate. We have a Providore offering relaxed dining options, accommodation, playground, cycle friendly facilities, a Summit Cru Wine Club that allows you to access our winery estate 7 days a week and 16 varietals of wine each year at our best prices; and we also cater for weddings and functions.
We want you to explore this website to discover what #feathertopmoment awaits you.
