Description
As previously discussed, 2017 was one of our coolest, wettest and longest vintages we have experienced at Feathertop. It resulted in lighter red wines with less fruit richness, higher natural acidity and greater cellaring potential. For this reason, we have held back the release of many of our red varieties such as Merlot, giving them more time to soften and integrate and allowing them the opportunity to shine. We think the wait has been well worth it.
Our 2017 Merlot, previously too tight, lean and ‘closed’ to release, it has started to blossom into a wine that reminds us more of the famed wines from its homeland in Bordeaux than the rich, fruit bombs of Australia’s warm wine regions. Complex flavours of fresh plums, red berries and sweet spice lead to an elegant palate that is balanced by silky, textured tannins. This wine will age gracefully for many years to come.
Enjoy with: Braised red meat and rich tomato-based pasta dishes
