Is it a snow trip you are interested in but you love wine and luxury? Well, the Alpine Valley’s has so much to offer you! We suggest you take 4 days or longer to really immerse yourself in the region, please find suggested itinerary below. Don’t Summit Cru Members 50% off accommodation booking over 4 nights – more information here.
Drive to the Alpine Valley’s, you might want to stop at one of the ski hire places on the way, many of our visitors stop at Myrtleford for a warming cuppa, lunch and hire/buy any gear they need at Rays Ski Shop but there are many options for this both on the Mountain and off (click here for more details). Arrive at Porepunkah, book into Feathertop Winery Luxury Accommodation, couples stay at the Peggy Adelaide Suite or family or groups the Mt Buffalo View Suite (or book both for a larger group) or for something more casual book a room at the Porepunkah Pub. Unpack, have a rest and enjoy a wine tasting and afternoon nibbles whilst taking in the snow capped mountain views. Grab dinner at the Porepunkah Pub. Alternatively order in something yummy from one of our local restaurants in Porepunkah or Bright.
Hit the slopes! Leave Feathertop Winery (pack your afternoon nibbles for a snack later in the day). Drive just over an hour through the stunning country towns of Bright, Wandiligong, Smoko and Harrietville. Check out where you’d like to come back to for dinner. Arrive at the Mount Hotham Summit Area. We recommend a stop at Miss Mary’s Bar & Eats during your day. Carve it up on the slopes on your ski’s or snow board. Alternatively, you can start your day with a pre booked lesson or lessons for the kids. Enjoy a full day of snow fun. Drive home and stop into the cafe or restaurant you spied on your way up the mountain. Bright Brewery has great beer and pizza and often live music.
Mt Hotham has so much to offer from family adventures to advanced slopes for the ski pros! The mountain has a great mix of beginner (20%), intermediate (40%) and advanced (40%) terrain plus 35km of cross-country trails. There are 11 places to eat and 13 lifts (including dinner plain). Lift passes, lessons and rentals can be bought online or at the ticket office. Full details here.
Other activities you might like to do if you extend your time on Mount Hotham:
- Spend another day or more skiing or snow boarding.
- Visit Dinner Plain – with it’s own lifts, eateries and trails you are sure to love this area.
- Retail therapy and/or enjoy the Spa & Wellness Centre.
- Enjoy a Back Country Guided Tour or lessons via the Women’s Program.
Continue your snow adventure on Mount Buffalo! Wake up and enjoy your breakfast hamper and head exploring for the day. Use today’s afternoon’s nibbles, breaky hamper from tomorrow and make some sandwiches to pack a picnic. Drive up to The Mount Buffalo Chalet and Gorge Precinct. This area is stunning in Summer and completely different in Winter. In Winter it is covered with snow and is like a Winter Wonderland with stunning views! Wander the grounds of the chalet, have a cuppa from your thermos and soak in the views of the gorge.
Drive to Dingo Bell, a great place to toboggan, build a snowman and have a snow fight. Dingo Bell also has a café where you can buy a cuppa or lunch. From here drive further up the mountain to Cresta Valley for cross country skiing. After a full day of fun, head back to your accommodation for warm chocolate and afternoon nibbles.
Wake up, check out and head to one of the many local cafe’s for breakfast. The Rail Trail Cafe in Porepunkah makes at fantastic breakfast burrito! Say goodbye to the Alpine Valley’s – we’ll see you next time!
