Tempranillo is Spains most widely planted red grape variety and the backbone of the countries’ revered wines of Rioja. It grows best in the mountainous regions of north and central Spain where hot days and cool nights are the norm during the ripening period. It’s no secret as to why Tempranillo has found its’ Australian spiritual home in our Alpine Valleys where it experiences similar growing conditions to its’ homeland. Our hot days allow for the development of the varietys’ vibrant, juicy flavours of red berries, plums, dark cherry and sweet spice while our cool nights help preserve the delicate natural acidity and fine tannin structure vital for the wines balance.
