Feathertop Pinot Noir 2023

Once in a lifetime a winemaker becomes so ultimately obsessed with a grape variety, that they may just very well turn into a giant walking encyclopedia of that grape. We have seven different clones of this variety on the property and the MV6 is our most dominant. I ensured in vintage 2023 that we kept two different picks of Pinot separate. One clone in particular has larger berry sizes so we allocated that to Rose. Whilst the other two batches were then fermented using completely different yeasts, and temperatures and time on skins – I won’t bore you with the details, but the objective was to make a more precise and extracted version of this wine than was seen in 2022.

The final blend constitutes five different clones, with 8 months in freshly seasoned French oak for round texture, a touch of lees contact in seasoned French oak for some undertones of struck match and wine body bounce. This wine was bottled very early in the scheme of things to retain the fresh forest floor aromatics and strawberry jam.
