The long-awaited release of this wine will please many as we were unable to produce a Petit Verdot in 2016 due to poor flowering and fruit-set in the vineyard. This variety has been grown in Bordeaux, France for centuries, usually blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to produce the region’s famous and rather expensive wines. Here at Feathertop, we have always loved it as a straight varietal, allowing it the opportunity to shine and display its elegance and subtle complexities. It often shows a palate structure similar to Cabernet Sauvignon minus the coarse, sometimes over-bearing tannins of that variety. Alluringly dark in colour, our 2017 Petit Verdot is bursting with intense flavours of blackberry, currants, dark cherry and sweet spice. The powerful, silky tannins leave the palate long and very dry. A fabulous food wine, especially paired with rich red meat dishes, this wine will also age beautifully for many years to come.
Enjoy with: Roasted or braised red meat dishes.
Cellaring potential: Drink now – 2030
