The 2019 vintage started out as a very tricky one, with an intense heat wave preceding harvest and our unirrigated vines showing early signs of water stress. Thankfully, the weather turned during the first week of picking, with daytime temperatures dropping dramatically and cool nights giving the vines a well-earned reprieve. The change in weather was a god send for our later ripening varieties such as Friulano, allowing for extended hang-time which provides much of the wondrous flavour complexity and texture of this variety. A native of the stunning North East Italian region of Friuli, we believe it has found its’ Australian spiritual home in the Alpine Valleys. It’s a wine of great power and texture, displaying unique flavours of fresh nashi pear, roasted almonds, lemon zest and hints of savoury spice. A touch of drying phenolics keeps the complex fruit flavours in check and ensures the palate finishes clean and dry. Will continue to improve with time in bottle.
