The reputation of Merlot in this country has been damaged by big wine companies overcropping vines planted in some of the hottest wine regions in Australia, producing thin, simple wines that lack varietal expression. In the cool climate of the Feathertop Vineyard in Victoria’s Alpine Valleys, we are doing our best to reinstate Merlots’ glory as one of the most beautiful wines of the world. Our 2018 Merlot shows complex, mouth filling flavours of rich spiced plums, blackberries, sweet spice and dried herbs. Soft, velvety tannins leave the finish long and dry.
Enjoy with: Braised red meat dishes, tomato-based pasta sauces.
Cellaring potential: Drink now – 2028
Nebbiolo, regarded as the king of Italian red varieties, loves growing on the steep, rocky slopes of the Feathertop vineyard. The nutrient-poor, unirrigated soils combined with ample sunshine and cool nights allow for the development of the characters for which Nebbiolo is revered – a powerful, complex flavour profile, crisp natural acidity and a talc-like tannin structure. This wine displays aromas and flavours of violets, dark cherry, wild herbs with a hint of tar and tobacco leaf. Whilst light in colour, it is a powerful wine brimming with ultra-fine tannins which leaves the palate lip-smackingly dry. Pairs well with Charcuterie and game meats.
During these unprecedented and downright calamitous times, it’s nice when we can provide a little bit of ‘normal’. No drought, bushfires, smoke taint or worldwide pandemic will get in the way of one of our favourite occasions of the year – Riesling Release Time!!! Most of you will be aware of our at times unhealthy obsession with this most wondrous of grape varieties and we are so excited to bring you our 2019 edition, a wine that must be one of our best Rieslings yet. The flavour complexity we are seeing from the 8 different clones of the variety slowly maturing in the vineyard is incredibly exciting. Layers of flavours of fresh lime juice, citrus peel, green apple, nashi pear and hints of floral aromas abound in a fine, delicate palate structure. The vibrant natural acidity keeps everything tightly wound and leaves the palate long and lip-smackingly crisp. Yum and thankyou Riesling.
Rosé has quickly become one of our favourite wines to make and drink. The fact it can be made from a wide array of red grape varieties matches its’ versatility in the glass. Our 2021 Rosé is made from a field blend of exciting grape varieties sourced from the Feathertop vineyard, including Sangiovese, Malbec, Tempranillo and Nebbiolo. This dry style Rosé displays subtle flavours of juicy red berries, fresh cherries and savoury dried herbs. Abundant natural acidity leaves the palate crisp, dry and yearning for more. A great match with lightly cooked seafood or a straw.
