Family adventure time!

Winter in the Alpine Valley’s is a perfect time for some family fun. This family escape could be planned as a two-day adventure or a week long relaxation dispersed with family fun. Below we’ve included a full four-day adventure. A must – a balance of family fun, relaxation with a quiet glass or wine, great food and stunning Winter views.

Day 1

On your way up the valley we recommend you stop at The Red Stagg & Deer Farm. The kids will love to feed, touch and learn about deer, emus and ostriches on this 70 acre farm. As parents you can enjoy something from their la a carte menu; if you are “game” try a venison, kangaroo or emu meat dish! If that’s not for you, they have a full menu with entrées, pizzas, mains, kids menu and desserts. Plus a full bar and coffee machine.

Following this drive to Porepunkah and book into Feathertop Winery Luxury Accommodation. There is plenty of room for the full family in our Mt Buffalo View Suite (add the Peggy Adelaide Suite to the booking for a larger group). For something more casual book a room at the Porepunkah Pub.

Unpack, have a rest and enjoy a wine tasting and afternoon nibbles whilst taking in the snow-capped mountain views. The Porepunkah Pub is a perfect family Pub option for dinner. Alternatively, there are many other options in the area. Whether it’s a seriously delicious burger from Burgerville (Bright). Or a family meal at one of the other Pubs, there are many options to choose from.

Day 2

Today drive further up into the valley and explore each town along the way. Walk the shops and let the kids run wild on the playground at Howitt’s Park Bright. The Bright Canyon Walk (which starts at Howitt’s Park) is popular with families. It’s an easy 1.5km walk with beautiful views along the river. Need something more energetic, try the Mystic Mountain Bike Park. There are many bike trials from experienced and beginner, fun for the entire family.

After lunch, teach the kids how to catch their own dinner. Or buy some smoked trout to include in afternoon nibbles or dinner (and wine!) at the Mountain Fresh Trout and Salmon Farm. With free entry, tours and a chance to catch a fish, it is a great day out in itself!

Day 3

Feel like horsing around? Turn left at Bright and head to Tawonga. Enjoy a two hour, half or full day horse ride with Bogong Horseback Adventures. Operating since 1986 the Baird family breed and train all their own Australian Stock Horses. You are sure to make some amazing memories! If you have time and would like to see more? Drive through to Mt Beauty to enjoy the views more of this stunning valley. Dinner as per day one.

Day 4

Enjoy your in house breaky, find a café and head home. Alternatively enjoy some or all of the suggested activities in our Snow & Wine Itinerary or Romance Itinerary. Find these in our news section of the website. More itineraries to follow.
