Name Our New ‘Black Label’ 2018 Clonal Shiraz!
We’re very excited to be launching a new Feathertop wine project and we want you, our loyal Summit Cru members* to be involved in its’ creation.
Over the coming years, we will be releasing a number of very small-batch wines. These will be sourced from the incredibly diverse varietal and clonal mix planted on the steep hill at the top of the Feathertop vineyard. Growing conditions on the hill can differ significantly from other parts of our vineyard. In certain vintages, these small parcels of fruit can truly set themselves apart from others. It’s the differences in these conditions and clones that we are striving to capture and celebrate. The wines will generally have extended maturation time, both in oak and bottle prior to release. They will be produced with longevity and cellaring potential in mind. In coming years, as the vines mature, varieties such as; Malbec, Durif, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon may feature in the range. Some interesting white wines are also in the pipeline.
The first of these wines is in bottle, awaiting labelling and release and this is where we want your help!
We are running a competition to name the inaugural wine! Allowing one of you to be permanently etched in Feathertop folklore.
Summit Cru Members – How to Enter:
- Pre-purchase a dozen of this wine (@ $499 delivered) by December 5th, 2021. Don’t forget to login.
- Upon purchase we will send you an email which you can reply to with your suggested wine name.
- The Feathertop team will then vote for the best name submitted!
- Following label design the wines will be labelled and released at the end of February 2022.
- All pre-purchased wines will also be personally signed by our Winemaker, Nick Toy.

There are no parameters to naming this wine, it may reflect anything to do with Feathertop, the variety or our region and can be as serious or not-so-serious as you like. To help you along, the following is a brief outline of the wine.
About the Wine:
It is a Shiraz from the spectacular 2018 vintage. It was made from a tiny parcel of fruit that simply looked and tasted extraordinary while maturing on the vines. Interestingly, the parcel was a warm climate Barossa Valley clone. During the entire vetting process this clone clearly outperformed two wines made from cool-climate clones from the same block. It was matured under oak for 30 months and the limited volume of 60 dozen was bottled in January 2021. It is a powerful, yet elegant wine; displaying complex flavours of macerated plums, black currants, violets, cracked black pepper and sweet and savoury spice. The tannins are abundant yet ultra-fine and give the vibrant, mouth-filling palate a clear direction and lip-smackingly dry finish. It is simply delicious, and we are so excited to kick off our new project with this wine.
